Jovana Reisinger, born in 1989 in Munich, Germany, is a writer, filmmaker and visual artist. After graduating in Design at the Academy of Applied Sciences, she studied screenwriting and documentary film directing at the University of Television and Film in Munich. Her debut novel „Still Halten“ was published by Verbrecher Verlag (Berlin) in June 2017 and is an introspection by a depressed woman confronted with the imminent death of her mother and her own struggling with the paralysation of her illness. Her second novel „Spitzenreiterinnen“ (Verbrecher Verlag, 2021) focuses on nine women, named after german Women’s magazines, their lives, gender roles, patriarchy and internalized) sexism.
Her recent video work is the talkshow-series , Men in Trouble“ (2021), which was part of her latest solo exhibition „Men in Trouble“ (Kunsthalle Osnabrück August 29, 2020 to February 14, 2021). She developed a spacious, walk-in installation in which both her previous video works could be seen, as well as a television studio in which the talk show was filmed. The six episodes were shot in front of an audience, where the repetitive sequence of a film shoot correlated with the expectations of a live performance.
In her four-part film series „pretty pretty mad sad“ (2016-18), Reisinger developed a specific language, that uses TV-commercial slogans, an exaggerated and sometimes uncomfortable directness, and a male Voice Over, that accompanies and sarcastically comments on the existences of the protagonists, who dream of a glamorous and better life. The result is a critical, yet humorous way of dealing with topics like the performance of class and power, heteronomative ideals, fixed social concepts of being a woman, and beauty standards, fashion, consumption, and the industries behind them. In 2018 the film series was presented as a 24-hour screening with the title „non-stop kino“ in the entirety of Kunstverein München.
Her hybrid film study “,,beauty is life“ explores the anti-aging industry and the fact that women from an early age end up being concerned about the visible effects of aging. A variety of women, rotating like objects on a presentation platform in a showcase, present diverse Beauty Gadgets and transport a feeling of temporary satisfaction. Currently Reisinger is re-writing the screenplay into a theatre play.
In her film works, Reisinger assumes many roles: she writes the screenplays, directs and edits the films, is responsible for set design and costume, and appears herself in the films and creates self reference. All in the tradition of the film d’auteur.

Jovana Reisinger emphasizes socially inscribed behaviors, market driven decisions, and identification formed by stereotypes and how they integrate into daily life by exaggerating and leading them ad absurdum.
